Responsibility
Occupational safety – responsibility towards our workforce
A sustainable approach also encompasses reliable protection for our workforce from any direct or indirect risk to health and safety. Our comprehensive occupational safety concept is based on an integral consideration of the work system in place which encompasses all the relevant technical, organizational and personal aspects involved in achieving maximum safety.
Acting responsibly means taking a preventive, systematic and comprehensive approach to all aspects of safety. Only in this way is it possible to identify, evaluate and eliminate risks. This involves for instance ensuring that our plant and equipment is designed to minimize faults, and to prevent and respond tolerantly to errors. Safe operation of equipment in our production facilities is guaranteed by written instructions, training measures and practical exercises.
Product responsibility
Environmentally compatible product design forms a mainstay of our endeavour to achieve sustainability. An important aspect of all our product development steps is to determine whether a certain percentage of recycled polyol is possible in each new product. Where economically feasible, we also consider the possibility of an order to develop a “custom-tailored” recycling polyol – depending upon the anticipated annual purchase quantity.
Growing importance is also attached to the use of renewable raw materials. Instead of looking to synthetic chemicals, preference is given to sourcing natural oils (such as castor oil) as the basis for our products.
New raw materials are also internally sampled and approved where these contain hazardous materials subjected to restrictions by regulatory or customer stipulations (e.g. heavy metals in vehicles brought into circulation after 01/07/2003 in accordance with the End-of-Life Vehicle Directive 2000/53/EC of the European Parliament and Council dated 18 September 2000 (Official Bulletin L 269 dated 21/10/2000)).
