RAMPF Tooling presents high-performance solutions at Composites Europe 2009
RAMPF's composites technologies enable efficient light weight construction
For the first time RAMPF Tooling and some of its top-class partners will showcase innovative solutions in combination with high quality model, mold and tool building materials for light weight construction at this year's trade fair `Composites Europe` in Stuttgart.
RAMPF Tooling's motto for this year's performance at Composites Europe 2009 in Stuttgart is “from idea to finished part“. At its booth C2, A04 the company, supported by well-known firms like Eurocopter, Bertrandt and Esterhammer, will present solutions for light weight construction. The focus of the exhibition will be the interaction of high quality mold, model and tool making with demanding light weight construction techniques. RAMPF will display economic efficiency and performance of different technologies at various themed display sections.

The material specialist, based in Grafenberg, offers a comprehensive, modern and balanced product portfolio of liquid materials, pastes and boards specially designed for model and mold building. The product portfolio also includes high-performance resin systems for light weight construction.
The decision to participate in the exhibition has been taken because the composites area demands highly productive molds and models. The requirements in this segment are especially challenging as the composite parts have to be extremely tough but light weight. Furthermore the high user standards have also to be met. RAMPF Tooling offers the effective materials, important know-how and outstanding service to meet these various requirements. Target industries are machinery, marine, automotive but also the areas of renewable energy and aerospace.
Material – more than just form giver
The center of the trade fair presentation will be tangible examples of precise re-quirements: light weight and mechanical toughness. Highlights will be complex models from the aerospace and automotive industry. In close cooperation with Eu-rocopter experts from RAMPF Tooling produced a galvano bath model out of RAKU-TOOL CC-6503 for the production of a helicopter roof. The production process of this uniquely light and robust part can be seen on the booth.
Together with the company Bertrandt, experts for engineering services, prototype car door panels were produced using resin infusion. During this project a process named Close Contour Casting, also called 3C, was used, thereby close contour shape models are generated through continuous vacuum casting. The mold into which the liquid material is cast, is made using the customer's CAD data. Advantages of 3C are: fast machining, less tool wear and less wastage. ”We supply the casting ready for machining and its shape is a very close contour of the final shape. This saves the user time and money“, explains Heinz Horbanski. Especially during difficult economic times efficient technologies are in demand, comments the expert further. RAMPF's distribution partner Esterhammer based in Rutesheim will display additional projects that demonstrate how easy it is to turn your ideas into prototypes. On display will be an Audi R8 headlight and the Apollo racing car interior for which board material and Close Contour Paste were used in the production process. These are good examples of how flexibly the RAMPF materials can be used: not only as form givers but also as a part of the model itself. A further key characteristic is that both materials exhibit a fine and homogeneous surface.
The overall concept of the exhibition is to present holistic solutions. “It is important for us to display the various production processes and corresponding material choices comprehensively. This gives our customers a relevant overview of different tech-niques, processes and advantages“, explain the experts from RAMPF Tooling. On display will be various production processes for model and mold making using Close Contour Casting (e.g. galvano bath models) and Close Contour Paste as well as different techniques to produce parts via resin infusion and prepreg.
Gaining insight into the new innovation center during the in-house exhibition
Even more Tooling will be presented following Composites Europe. On 30th October the modeling specialist is inviting customers and partners to an in-house exhibition in Grafenberg, the reason being the opening of the new innovation center at its headquarters. “By means of case studies we will showcase the performance and high quality of our products. Naturally we will grant more insight into processes than would be possible at the external exhibition” comments Heinz Horbanski. The ex-pertise of the whole RAMPF Group will also be presented. The affiliates RAMPF Giessharze and RAMPF Dosiertechnik display their know-how around reactive resin systems for bonding, sealing and casting. RAMPF Ecosystems demonstrates how PUR can be recycled and so come full circle and EPUCRET, experts for mineral casting, showcases its know-how of machine beds made out of cast mineral. With the new building RAMPF has expanded its service area for training and other ser-vices like the Close Contour Paste application.
